Maintenance & Facilities Director

Reports to: Superintendent

Classification: Salaried/Exempt

Schedule: Primary daytime hours; requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and emergency

response (e.g., weather, fire alarms, or contractor oversight).

Purpose Statement

The Maintenance & Facilities Director is responsible for the strategic management and operational

oversight of the school’s physical environment. This includes ensuring the safety, comfort, and

functionality of all infrastructure (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, air quality) and grounds. The Director

manages internal custodial and housekeeping teams, oversees external vendors, and coordinates

facility improvements to support the educational mission of the school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Technical Expertise: Functional knowledge of building trades; HVAC certification or significant experience is highly preferred.

·         Communication: Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical staff and administrators with diplomacy and clarity.

·         Conflict Resolution: Strong interpersonal skills to manage employee relations and resolve issues professionally.

·         Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to master school-specific software for work orders, HVAC monitoring, and payroll.

·         Confidentiality & Ethics: Absolute adherence to school confidentiality policies and federal/state privacy guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

·         Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, maintenance, or a related field. Previous supervisory experience is required.

·         Education: 2 years of related college coursework OR 5 years of equivalent professional experience in a leadership capacity.

·         Physical Requirements: Ability to perform moderate lifting, carrying, and stooping. Position involves a mix of office-based administrative tasks and active on-site inspections/oversight.

·         Clearances: Must pass a comprehensive background check (State, Federal, DHHS) and required drug testing.

Salary

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and technical certifications. This is a 12-month, exempt position offering a comprehensive benefits package, including Nebraska public employee retirement and generous paid leave.
