4-8 Middle School Counselor

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Public Schools, an “Excellent” rated district, is seeking a Grades 4–8 Middle School Counselor for the 2026–2027 school year. SDA is a supportive, student-centered school system with a strong culture of collaboration and high expectations for teaching and learning.

Position Responsibilities Include:

• Delivering guidance lessons for students in grades 4–6

• Providing individual and small-group counseling to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs

• Contributing to the MTSS process, including data review, intervention planning, and progress monitoring

• Implementing Tier 1 supports at the junior high level, including restorative circles and proactive social-emotional practices

• Collaborating with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to promote student success and well-being

• Supporting and enhancing school climate and culture through proactive programming, relationship-building, and student advocacy

• Assisting with student transitions, social-emotional learning initiatives, and preventative supports

• Participating in problem-solving teams, meetings, and professional development aligned with district goals
