Special Education Para-educator

Shelton Public SchoolsCompensation and benefits are determined by district paraeducator pay scales and negotiated agreements. is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Special Education Paraeducator to support students with disabilities in classroom and instructional settings. This position works directly with special education teachers and related staff to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support students individually and in small groups under the direction of special education teachers.

  • Assist with the implementation of IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications.

  • Reinforce instruction and help students remain engaged in learning activities.

  • Support behavior intervention plans and promote positive student behavior.

  • Assist with data collection, documentation, and progress monitoring as directed.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Paraeducator certification or willingness to obtain certification as required by state/district guidelines.

  • Experience working with children, preferably in special education or educational settings.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow instructional plans and maintain confidentiality.

Additional Information

Compensation and benefits are determined by district paraeducator pay scales and experience of the candidate.

This position will start on Monday, February 9, 2026.
