High School Science Teacher (One Year Only)

Norris High School is accepting applications for a full-time science teacher position for the 2026-2027 school year. The candidate chosen to fill this position will work closely with the experienced educators in the high school in planning standards-based program curriculum. Specific teaching assignments will be based on department need and interest/expertise of the selected candidate.

This position is for the 2026-27 school year ONLY.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified or ability to be certified as a 7-12 secondary teacher with appropriate science endorsement:
    • Preferred Endorsement: Science 7-12
    • Acceptable Endorsements: Biology 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, Physics 7-12

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches basic skills, knowledge, and strategies within a secondary education endorsement while utilizing the courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Leads effective instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in skills, knowledge, and contribution in the respective curricular area.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the classroom.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Works cooperatively with other teachers at the middle and high school levels in planning a balanced program.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve problems.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Follows Norris School District staff handbook policies.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Selects and requisitions consumable supplies, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
  • Participates in the curriculum review process and other professional development programs.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Performs other duties as needed, as assigned by the supervisor.

BENEFITS

  • Base pay 2026-27: $41,700
  • All years of service accepted. 4% vertical, 5% horizontal salary schedule (9 graduate credit hour horizontal increments)

  • 88 hours (11 days) non-specified leave per year
