JOB TITLE: ART TEACHER 9 – 12
(2026 – 2027 School Year)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Valid Nebraska Certificate with endorsement in visual arts
- Successful teaching and/or practice teaching in experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator
JOB GOAL: To organize and conduct a learning situation which will enable students to acquire the development of knowledge of basic art concepts and skills, develop a performance of basic art activities through student active participation, and develop an interest in art as it pertains to their future lives
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month year or as established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This is a generalized job description. Specific art teaching assignments (art fundamentals, advanced drawing, pottery, sculpture, painting, commercial art, and/or creative art) may vary somewhat in essential functions and physical requirements. Applicants should be made aware of specific requirements prior to employment.
Performs all the functions of the academic teacher with the addition of the following:
- Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with art curriculum guidelines
- Plans, prepares, and carries out physical demonstrations using various supplies and equipment
- Implements and evaluates a course in art fundamentals: Encourage students to develop subject interests and techniques via drawing
- Implements and evaluates a semester course in advanced drawing: Designed to give students additional experience in drawing techniques, composition, and media development
- Implements and evaluates a course in pottery: Teaches students hand-building and wheel-throwing pottery construction techniques, and glazing/decoration methods
- Implements and evaluates a course in painting: An advanced class for students to improve and further develop their basic painting skills and to explore new techniques
- Implements and evaluates a course in commercial art: Designed to explore the projects and methods for producing advertising in art projects, including posters, package design, logos, typography, and illustration
- Implements and evaluates a course in creative art: An intense studio art class for the serious art students who wish to pursue an art-related career
- Implements and evaluates a course in sculpture: Designed to cover basic sculpture techniques using additive and subtractive methods, projects involve plaster, wood, and assemblage
- Teaches and observes safety precautions at all times
- Follows proper precautions in the storage and handling of supplies
- Takes inventory of supplies annually
- Collects fees from students
- Submits annual budget for equipment and supplies

- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Skills in leadership, organization, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Skills in human relations, the ability to deal with a diversity of people
- Visual acuity in judging artistic accomplishments
- Skills in assessment and evaluation
