Shelby-Rising City – Superintendent

Shelby-Rising City Public Schools is a rural, Class III District, with a PK-12 building located in Shelby. The Shelby and Rising City Districts consolidated prior to the 2011-2012 school year. Shelby is a town of 710, located in eastern Polk County. Rising City is a town of 356, located in western Butler County. The major industry in the area is agriculture. Shelby is located 20 miles south of Columbus and 60 miles northeast of Grand Island. Shelby has a park with two ball fields, a roofed shelter for grilling out, a swimming pool, courts for sand volleyball and for tennis/basketball, a playground, and a recreational bike/hike trail.

The district has an enrollment of 373 400 students in grades PK-12. Shelby-Rising City Public Schools’ mission is to provide a quality education through innovation, integrity, accountability, and service. A $16 million expansion and construction project was completed in 2017 putting all students under one roof with a new elementary and student activities wing. The project also included updating existing facilities; including security cameras-entrances-parking, heating-ventilation-air conditioning, and other energy efficient improvements.

• Lead with clear expectations, open communication, and timely follow-up to build a culture of accountability, trust, and collaboration with a visible and transparent approach

• Develop and implement strategic and facilities plans that establish a clear vision and provide a strong foundation for informed decision-making

• Maintain the district’s financial stability while strategically planning for future funding challenges and continuing to expand educational opportunities for all students
