7-12 Counselor

High Plains Community Schools is seeking a compassionate, student-centered 7–12 High School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and college/career readiness needs of students in grades 7–12. The counselor will work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to create a supportive environment that promotes student success, well-being, and future planning.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling for academic, career, and social-emotional needs
  • Assist students with course selection, graduation requirements, and academic planning
  • Support college and career readiness, including college applications, scholarships, career exploration, and postsecondary planning
  • Help coordinate and implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and student intervention strategies
  • Respond to crisis situations and make referrals to outside agencies when appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians to support student success
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • Assist with standardized testing coordination and interpretation of results when appropriate
  • Provide classroom guidance lessons related to goal setting, career exploration, mental health awareness, and decision-making
  • Support the development of a safe, positive, and inclusive school climate

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field
  • Valid or eligible for a 7-12 counselor certificate  issued by the NDE
  • Knowledge of middle school and high school student development
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trusting relationships with students and families.

Additional Information

The starting base salary in the 2026-27 school year is $41,600.00.  The salary schedule is 4X4.5.  The package includes all benefits, LTD, and a full insurance package. The start date will be August 1, 2026.
