Assistant Professor of Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education at Hastings College is accepting applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Teacher Education position starting in August 2025. This is a full-time, residential teaching position (teaching in-person and daily on campus). The Hastings College Teacher Education Department has one of the larger majors on campus and a respected and successful field-based program to prepare highly effective and impactful teachers.

As a smaller institution, all education faculty assist with teaching the general/introductory education coursework for all majors. The priority for this position includes teaching the developmental and diagnostic elementary reading coursework and elementary methods (STEAM) coursework. Other areas of specialization could include special education, assessment, or technology integration depending on the applicant’s experiences and expertise. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

  • Teaching, generally 24 credit hours per academic year.

  • Advising and mentoring students majoring in education.

  • Supervising students in field experiences, to include the student teaching semester.

  • Developing course syllabi and curriculum.

  • Working in a professional, collegial, and team-oriented manner within the Teacher Education Department and campus community.

  • Maintaining compliance with policies and procedures within the Teacher Education Program.

  • Serving and participating in department and campus committee work

 

Qualifications:  

  • Education – PhD or EdD, or significant progress toward the terminal degree, in education or related field. A candidate with a masters degree could be considered with expertise and experience in the related field.

  • Certification – Hold, or have held, valid state teaching certification.

  • Experience – Requires a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in PK-12 accredited schools.

  • Exhibit potential for teaching excellence, knowledge of emerging trends in the field, and a working knowledge of how students learn.
