Teacher of the Visually Impaired 26-27 School Year

1. Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired

2. Department: Special Education

3. Education Level and Certification: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education; at all times must possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate with Visual Impairment Endorsement as required by NDE Rule 10 and all other certification and training as required or assigned.

4. Reports To: Director of Special Education or Designee

5. Terms of Employment: 185 days up to 191 days with summer services included / Schedule 4

7. Maintain confidentiality of student and family information as required by NDE Rule 51 and Rule 52 and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

2. Job Responsibilities

8. Provide direct instruction and consultation/collaboration for blind or visually impaired students, as identified by the IFSP/IEP/504 plan.

9. Perform assessments in order to qualify, gather data and develop programming and instruction in the areas of functional vision, learning media, and expanded core curriculum.

10. Develop and implement goals and objectives for student IFSP/IEPs.

11. Monitor student IFSP/IEP progress and collect data to determine attainment of goals and objectives.

12. Document student progress and provide progress reports as required by student IFSP/IEPs.

13. Participate in student 504, IFSP, IEP and MDT team meetings.

14. Coordinate and collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, families, and related service providers regarding student needs.

15. Prepare and adapt classroom materials for instructional use.

16. Maintain proficiency in teaching, adapting, and preparing braille instruction including braille software and hardware.

17. Obtain and utilize knowledge of assistive technology devices and instruction.

18. Participate in professional development activities as related to professional duties and goals, including attending conferences and workshops, regional offerings, and online webinars.

19. Participate in training and fidelity measurements as required by the NE Dept of Education, including routines-based early intervention.

20. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Working Conditions:

FLSA Status: Exempt. Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and student or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity..
