Middle School Library – Media Specialist

Job Overview: The Library/Media Specialist is responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive school library media program that supports curriculum, promotes literacy, and fosters information, digital, and media literacy skills. The specialist collaborates with teachers to integrate research skills and instructional technology into classroom learning aligned with Nebraska content standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Teach information literacy, research skills, digital citizenship, and media literacy to students in grades 6–8.

  • Provide Library/Media instruction aligned with Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards.

  • Promote reading engagement and lifelong literacy habits.

  • Teach digital literacy skills, including responsible technology use, basic keyboarding, navigation, and digital citizenship.

  • Assist teachers in integrating instructional technology into lessons to enhance engagement and differentiation.

  • Integrate digital citizenship and responsible technology use aligned with Nebraska standards.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum goals and literacy initiatives.

Professional Duties:

  • Provide troubleshooting support for common classroom technology needs.

  • Maintain and manage library technology resources (devices, digital subscriptions, and media tools).

  • Oversee circulation, cataloging, and organization of materials.

  • Maintain an updated and relevant collection.

  • Manage the library budget and ordering processes.

  • Ensure the library space is organized, accessible, and safe for young learners.

  • Participate in school-wide meetings, events, and other administrative activities as required.

  • Provide supervision as assigned by the building principal.

Additional Information

Base Pay: $41,300 (Experience and advanced hours recognized)

Insurance: Fully paid health insurance and single dental insurance

Contract Days: 186 days
