ASD Behavior Specialist

The ASD Behavior Specialist supports the Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Network Technical Assistance Project, funded by the Nebraska Department of Education, Office of Special Education, serving the Southeast Region. The ASD Behavior Specialist provides professional learning, coaching, and consultation to school districts to improve outcomes for students on the autism spectrum who have complex behavioral support needs.

School consultation services focus on building the capacity of school teams to effectively support students with autism and other disabilities who have complex behavioral needs rather than providing direct student services.

The ASD Behavior Specialist partners with educators to identify and implement appropriate functional behavior assessment (FBA) tools and procedures; collaborates with teams to design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based instructional and behavioral supports; and assists teams in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to guide problem-solving, monitor student progress, and inform ongoing decision-making.

The ASD Behavior Specialist works collaboratively with educators, families, and community partners to strengthen local capacity, build staff confidence and expertise, and support the sustainable implementation of effective practices that improve outcomes for students across school settings.
