School Counselor (K-12)

Dundy County Stratton Public School District #117 is seeking qualified applicants for the position of School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year.  The Dundy County Stratton School District includes the communities of Benkelman (population  770), Haigler (population 145) and Stratton (population 300) and is situated in the Southwest corner of the state bordering Colorado to the west and Kansas to the south.  The district is comprised of approximately 280 students (average class size of 18.7 students per class) that are located in three (03) buildings–a new (2025) Childcare/Pre-Kindergarten building, a K-6 facility and a Jr./Sr. High all located in Benkelman, NE.  Dundy County Stratton competes at the Class D level for Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) activities/athletics and is a member of the Republican Plains Activity Conference (RPAC).

For the 2026-2027 school year, the district qualifies for the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) that provides free meals to all students in the district throughout the school year.  The communities support a strong “Farm-to-Fork” program that provides locally produced meat for the lunch program.  Through local foundations, all graduating Dundy County Stratton seniors are afforded scholarships of $4,000.00(+), per semester, that covers four (04) years of post-secondary education.  The district functions in a 1:1 environment with students utilizing laptops and iPads.  Dundy County Stratton Public Schools has a strong staff, supportive communities, a progressive board/staff relationship along with advanced technology to provide great opportunities for students.

Dundy County Stratton Public School District #117 has a 2026-2027 base salary of $42,000.00.  The position will have a 185-day contract with extended days possible.  The district provides full paid Blue Cross Blue Shield family health insurance ($1,050/$3,800 deductible)/single dental insurance along with Short-Term/Long-Term Disability coverage and a paid $20,000 life insurance policy.  The district offers certificated staff members fifteen (15) days of paid time off (PTO) annually.  All previous years of teaching experience are accepted.

The successful candidate must possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate and have, or be able to attain, a Counselor endorsement as required by NDE.  Applicants that are interested in or are currently pursuing an alternative/transitional education permit are encouraged to apply.  The district will support the right candidate through that process.  Coaching (Head Boys Basketball, Head Boys Golf & Head Girls Wrestling are currently available) and activity sponsorship opportunities are available but not required.
