Work Agreement: 185 days; 7-8 hours per day and/or as available 

Hourly Pay: Starts at $17.26 and is based on related experience 

 

Crete Public Schools is seeking applications for a special education para educator for the 2026-2027 school year. 

 

The person in this position works with students attending the CPS Behavior Program. This is a full time position.

Essential Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED, 2 year degree preferred
  2. Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
  3. Understanding of or background with individuals with disabilities
  4. Work well with children and co-workers
  5. First aid knowledge preferred, but not required
  6. Crisis de-escalation and intervention experience preferred, but not required
  7. Bilingual preferred, but not required 

 

Job Tasks:

  1. Collaborate with the special education teacher in order to assist students in meeting individual goals and implement behavior programming.  
  2. Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce academic and behavioral skills.  
  3. Provide direct support to students with behavioral needs including de-escalation and crisis intervention.
  4. Supervise students in a variety of capacities throughout the school day.
  5. Assist classroom teachers in a variety of capacities such as preparing lesson materials and cleaning/organizing the classroom.
  6. Participate in professional learning which may include CPR/First Aid training, crisis prevention and intervention, and evidence based academic and behavioral practices.
  7. May assist with transporting students to and from school in a school vehicle.

(2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and 

(3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Principal.

 

At-Will Position: 

  • This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
