Position Title:  Assistant Principal 

Assignment: Crete Middle School

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Contract: 245 Days

 

Purpose:

The Assistant Principal performs tasks assigned by the building principal and functions as a member of the building educational leadership team to provide a safe and rigorous learning environment for students.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Instructional Leadership

  1. Provides instructional leadership to ensure student learning opportunities are maximized.

  2. Provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs.

  3. Provides leadership with the development and implementation of the Crete Middle School instructional vision.  

  4. Represents the school administrative team on school district committees as assigned.

  5. Coordinate student teachers and other university observers.

  6. Manage specific departments/programs as assigned by the building principal.

  7. Positively promote the branding of Crete Middle School.

  8. Coordinate with school counselor(s) and teachers to ensure personalized learning experiences are designed for all students.

  1. Staff

  1. Assists in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff.

  2. Assists in determining staff assignments and organization of duties and responsibilities.

  3. Assists in responding to questions, concerns, and needs of specific staff to accomplish specific performance objectives.

  4. Observe and evaluate staff (certified and classified) as assigned and provide direction and support to accomplish growth targets.

  5. Assists in the development of professional growth plans for staff and presents information to support professional growth as requested.

 

  1. Curriculum

  1. Assist in the supervision, evaluation, and development of instructional programs.

  2. Assists in observing and meeting with teachers to ensure instructional programs are implemented with fidelity.

  3. Assists with the monitoring of instructional programs to ensure district guidelines are followed.

  4. Assist with the registration and master schedule.

  5. Serves on a variety of committees to meet educational goals as requested.

 

  1. Students

  1. Assists with and keeps the safety, health, and well-being of students foremost throughout the performance of all duties.

  2. Assists with student supervision at all times.

  3. Supervises student activities before, during, and after school as assigned.

  4. Communicates with students, staff, and parents’ behavior expectations and ensures the enforcement of the same; following the district established due process procedures.

  5. Manage student behavior and discipline policies, procedures, and record-keeping.

 

  1. Resource Management

  1. Assists in the use, monitoring, and expenditure of funds and resources provided by the district and other entities according to district policies and procedures.

  2. Assists in monitoring facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and the community.

 

6. Community

  1. Foster and grow community relationships to maximize student learning opportunities.  

 

Other Responsibilities

  1. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

 

Position Requirements:

  1. Master’s Degree in Education, including Nebraska Administrative Certification.

  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  3. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish trust and rapport with students, parents, and staff.

 

Working Conditions: 

 

  1. Inside Outside Both  x

  2. Climatic Environment:  Supervision of grounds and activities will require exposure to weather conditions.

  3. Hazards:  Those associated with crowd control, student behavior intervention.

  4. Mental Demands:  Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.  Ability to work under stressful conditions in relation to the supervision of staff and dealing with parental/student concerns.

  5. Physical Demands:  Ability to work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time (3 hours or more without a break).  Ability to lift and carry 15-25 pounds occasionally.
