Literacy / Instructional Coach
*This position is grant-funded and continuation of employment is dependent upon the availability of grant funds.
Crete Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a Literacy / Instructional Coach for grades 6-12 for the 2026-2027 school year. Benefits include paid health insurance, long-term disability insurance, and personal and sick leave. This position is open until filled.
Purpose:
The primary purpose of the 6-12 Literacy Coach is to drive school-wide and district-wide improvement in adolescent literacy instruction across all content areas (e.g., Science, Social Studies, Math, and English Language Arts) for students in grades 6 through 12.
The Coach serves as a non-evaluative, expert resource who facilitates the implementation of research-based, high-leverage literacy practices through targeted, job-embedded coaching and professional development.
This role is responsible for supporting teachers in refining their instructional strategies, analyzing student data to inform practice, and ensuring equitable access to rigorous curriculum, ultimately resulting in measurable gains in student reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills necessary for college and career readiness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
- Administrative Certification (preferred but not required)
Required Job Tasks:
- Work cooperatively with administrative staff, and instructional staff in the development of a 6-12 ELA courses and programs
- Provide professional development training for instructional staff through PLCs, one-on-one observation and coaching, and whole-group professional development sessions
- Keep abreast of new developments in Reading/Language Arts curriculum
- Assist in coordinating curriculum to ensure all content areas are infused with literacy strategies, complex text, and instructional technology that will contribute to increased student achievement in reading
- Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive curriculum including model unit and lesson plans, curriculum maps, and pacing guides
- Ensure alignment of the district curriculum with the Nebraska Standards
- Assist with coordination and assessment of universal screening, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring
- Assist with the identification of students for interventions
- Monitor student data for needed placement changes or graduation from intervention
- Facilitate intervention meetings
- Observe interventions for fidelity and provide feedback to teachers
- Assist in parent communication as students move through the MTSS process
- Transition student intervention information between grades
- Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

Professional exemption:
The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher.
