TITLE:  Westside High School Principal

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree required, Doctorate in Education preferred 
  • Must possess a Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate at all times during employment, with such endorsements as required by NDE Rule 10
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience, 5 years of successful administration experience preferred
  • Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the Superintendent

PURPOSE: The Westside High School Principal is the chief administrator of the school and serves in both a leadership and management role. The responsibilities of the High School Principal extend to all activities of the school. The High School Principal may delegate performance of management duties. Such delegation does not relieve the High School Principal from ultimate responsibility or accountability.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Maximize modular scheduling implementation to ensure student learning at the highest levels
  • Establish a shared leadership model and lead a learning community
  • Utilize accountability measures and hold staff and students responsible for their part
  • Pursue additional innovative educational opportunities for all students 
  • Integrate new and existing technologies
  • Facilitate student and staff engagement and maintain outstanding academic achievement
  • Reflect the mission and goals of Westside in the school’s programs and operations

Educational Leadership

  • Cultivate a positive school culture that promotes belonging, engagement, and dignity for all and is free from bias
  • Uphold high expectations for students, staff, and the community
  • Foster key initiatives and culture characteristics that impact student learning and achievement
  • Develop and maintain a positive, professional rapport between staff, students, and parents
  • Model and develop effective systems to promote a professional educational environment that is collaborative, safe, orderly, and respectful 

Human Resource Administration:

  • Recruit, hire, and retain high quality staff, including those from diverse identities 
  • Direct, coordinate, supervise, and effectively evaluate subordinate teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Support current staff, providing meaningful opportunities for growth

Organization Management:

  • Assure safety and welfare of students and staff during school and at school sponsored activities 
  • Oversee the daily operations of the building
  • Oversee facility maintenance of the building
  • Use resources to increase student achievement

Professionalism:

  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District, the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27) and the American Association of School Administrators. The High School Principal must serve as a positive role model for staff and students
  • Model life-long learning

School/Community Relations

  • Represent the school before the public and promote a positive relationship between the school and the community

General Responsibilities

  • Administer the school in conformity with the adopted policies of the Board, state and federal laws and regulations, and all other laws and regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with the law and District rules
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Board or the Superintendent
