Elementary Principal

Roles and Responsibilities

The principal’s main duty is to implement the philosophy, mission, objectives, and the overall management of operations that are education related at the school. The principal is responsible for the professional effectiveness of the staff, the educational progress of the students, is under the supervision of the Pastor and is accountable the entire St. Joseph School community.


Primary Responsibilities

     Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of St. Joseph School

     Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church

     Develops a school climate reflecting Catholic identity and a positive culture

     Supports and adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church, Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures of the Diocese of Lincoln

     Supervises instruction and evaluates the overall effectiveness of the academic program

     Oversees ongoing orientation and staff development in both educational and faith development of faculty and staff

     Maintains the Approved Status of the school according to Nebraska Department of Education Standards

     Assists the Pastor in the hiring, evaluating, and terminating of all faculty and staff according to school and diocesan guidelines

     Maintains current and accurate records according to state requirements of Rule 14, and diocesan and school policy

     Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff

     Provides for an orderly school environment and promotes student self-discipline

     Provides direct supervision of school sponsored activities

     Carries out the disciplinary policies of the school

     Completes and submits all official forms required by the Diocese of Lincoln and, Nebraska Department of Education, and other public agencies

     Annually, develop class schedules and oversee the acquisition of materials within the budgetary guidelines of the pastor

     Responsible for collaborating with local public schools to initiate any special education needs of their resident students and monitor the delivery of those services to qualified students

     Collaborate and be available to meet with parent organizations that exist to support the mission of the school

     Assume the role of director for athletic programs sponsored by the school-parish


 Preferred Skills

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  •  Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, learning, and behavior
  • Knowledge of effective assessment methods  
  •  Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form 
  • Able to work well with others in the school community
  • Able to work independently and self-motivate
  •  Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  •  Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format

Education and Experience

   Masters Degree required

   Teacher and Administrative Certification in the State of Nebraska

   5 years of Administrative experience at the Assistant Principal level or higher preferred

Zone 4

Additional Information

Salary based on experience and education. Start Date negotiable (no later than July 1, 2024).
