HEAD START

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

REGULAR, FULL-TIME

NON-EXEMPT

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Responsible to implement all educational activities and services for children and their families in a manner that is consistent with the Head Start Performance Standards and written plans.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

1.       Plan weekly lessons and activities for children and their families.  Prepare materials to be used in daily program.

 

2.       Facilitate inclusion and main streaming of children affected by disabilities.

 

3.       Assist in health screenings, developmental screenings, hearing and vision screenings, and growth assessments.

 

4.       Work with Early Childhood Development Coordinator to develop and prepare classroom environments that promote learning and personal growth.

 

5.       Maintain an appropriate health environment by performing routine cleaning tasks and assuring completion of such on a weekly or more frequent basis, including care and hygiene of areas containing classroom pets.

 

6.       Model and demonstrate appropriate behaviors, including but not limited to, social interaction, table manners, classroom conduct, etc.

 

7.       Assist children with personal needs, including but not limited to assistance in eating, using the rest room, personal hygiene, and first aid.

 

8.       Responsible for obtaining reliability in Teaching Strategies Gold.

 

9.       Collect and enter anecdotes in Teaching Strategies Gold.

 

10.   Analyze and aggregate classroom data to improve outcomes for children.

 

11.   Complete any required paperwork and reports as requested by Coordinators in a timely manner, meeting deadlines required. Work closely with Coordinators to ensure that Performance Standards are met.

 

12.   Work collaboratively with the Family Service Advocate to effectively schedule and facilitate parent meetings.

 

13.   Assist in the planning of events and schedules that promote parent involvement in the classroom and in Head Start activities.

 

14.   Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor in keeping with the efficiency and effectiveness of the Head Start program.

 

15.   Actively participate in efforts to meet the SENCA Head Start goals as identified within the current SENCA Head Start Strategic Plan.

 

16.   Actively participate in efforts to meet the SENCA goals identified within the current SENCA Strategic Plan.

                                                           

17.   Actively participate in setting, tracking, and attaining the three national ROMA Next Generation Goals.

18.   Demonstrate active employee engagement by using individual talents, providing a consistent level of high performance, building connections and professional networks, having high energy, broadening responsibilities, and building on those responsibilities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.       Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record is required prior to performing any driving responsibilities.

 

2.       Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

3.       Must possess or be willing to obtain one of the following:

a.       An Associate Degree, Baccalaureate or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education.

b.      An Associate Degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education and course work equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.

c.       A Baccalaureate or Advanced Degree in a field related to in a field related to Early Childhood Education and course work equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.

d.      A Baccalaureate Degree in any field and has been admitted into the Teach for America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the Praxis II, participated in a Teach for America summer training institute, that includes teaching preschool children and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach for America’s professional staff.

 

4.       Previous experience working with preschool children is preferred.

 

5.       Ability to lift weights up to 60 pounds occasionally.

 

6.       Communicates effectively and efficiently, and comprehend various forms of communication.

 

7.       Knowledge of computers for word processing and other basic tasks.

8.       Ability to accept and learn new and improved education theories and techniques.

 

9.       Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, parents, volunteers, and others in the classroom.

 

10.   Ability to work with others using a team model and to follow basic teamwork principles.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.       Be able to travel on agency business and attend out of area training meetings and/or conferences as required by supervisor.

 

2.       Must have the ability to empathize with program participants.

 

3.       Maintain ones’ self at all times so as not to bring discredit upon themselves or the agency.

 AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:  Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the work and personnel at assigned center to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of Head Start program.  Responsible for ensuring health and safety of assigned facilities.  Responsible for carrying out any and all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Head Start Director.

MAJOR DUTIES:

 

1.       Ensure that all staff assigned to the center follow Head Start Performance Standards, SENCA Personnel Policies, and SENCA Policies and Procedures.

2.       Meet with appropriate Coordinator on a regular basis to discuss concerns and provide information regarding performance of center staff.  Provide encouragement to center staff to maintain a high level of performance.

3.       Conduct and facilitate weekly center staff meetings and submit meeting minutes Head Start Leadership Team.

4.       Provide center orientation for all newly staff hired.

5.       Schedule staff, approve or disapprove adjusted time, approve or disapprove of sick or annual leave requests, and check time sheets for accuracy.  Report all staff schedule changes to the Head Start Leadership Team. Approve time sheets, assuring they are submitted in a timely manner for processing according to policy.

6.       Assist appropriate Coordinator in executing personnel matters fairly, correctly, and according to SENCA and Head Start policies in a timely manner.

7.       Ensure safety and cleanliness in all area of the center, including the kitchen and the playground.

8.       Ensure needed repairs for equipment, buildings, and grounds are reported to the appropriate Coordinator.  Arrange for repairs according to procedure after obtaining authorization.

9.       Ensure volunteers receive orientation and complete proper paperwork for either non-federal donated time, Nebraska Workforce, or other required volunteer paperwork.

10.   Work cooperatively with content area Coordinators as necessary to make assessments and meet program requirements.
