Instructor, Land Surveying & Civil Engineering Tech – FT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Division Dean/Associate Dean, the instructor is responsible for keeping up-to-date with the current industry and developing/updating courses for different delivery formats (classroom, hybrid, synchronous online, and asynchronous online). Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to; Basic AutoCAD, Plane Surveying, Engineering Surveying, Geodetic Surveying, Aerial Surveying, Public Land Surveying, Route and Construction Surveying, Principles of Land Development and Boundary Control & Legal Principles.

This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the labs and equipment, developing course objectives, implementing teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, keeping accurate records, and working with the program and College teams. This is a full-time regular position.
Essential Functions

Provide Student Instruction in Assigned Program Courses

  1. Construct relationships with diverse learners;
  2. Develop and deliver engaging lessons in assigned program courses;
  3. Build curriculum: lesson plans, assignments, tests (subject to program approval);
  4. Developing courses is a shared responsibility based on the Dean, Associate Dean, and Program Director(s) after consideration of the industry leader’s feedback.
  5. Operate all appropriate audio-visual and multimedia equipment and software.

Create and Develop Teaching Aids and Supplements

  1. Create visual communications presentations.
  2. Enhance engaged learning through the College’s current visual/audio equipment and program applications.
  3. Keep up to date with current trends that reflect methods used in the Computer Information Technology industry.

Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses

  1. Collaborate with others and add, develop, and/or implement changes in current courses to keep the Land Surveying/GIS/ and Civil Engineering Technology program current.
  2. Develop courses that include writing course objectives, syllabi, handouts, and tests, and researching textbooks and online resources and data for course use.
  3. Maintain and upgrade Land Surveying and Civil Engineering Technology Equipment.
  4. Ensure classrooms, computer lab(s) and online equipment are suitable for engaged learning and are in working order for student use.

Complete and Maintain Program and Students Records

  1. Follow state and federal guidelines for student records.
  2. Maintain permanent student records: grade books, attendance, and student achievement for all courses taught.
  3. Use and promote the online instructional learning management software (LMS), Self-Service, OFFICE 365, and the HUB.
  4. Provide recommendations for capital equipment purchases of instructional supplies and equipment.

Maintain Technical Competency in the Teaching Area

  1. Attend seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops, or other related training sessions to stay technically competent.
  2. Participate in college activities related to professional development, diversity, and safety.
  3. Participate in Area Campus-Based Program Activities and Teams.
  4. Actively engage in, and support Program activities (advisory team meetings, open house, division meetings, etc.) and College activities and teams as requested.

Act as a Program Advisor for Students in the Computer Information Technology Program.

  1. Mentor, support, and advise students on academic standing, progress, and the academic map demonstrating courses needed for graduation.
  2. Explain College policies and procedures to students to complete all records and forms etc., as needed for articulation and program operation.

Individual Development Plan

  1. Develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Associate Dean and as defined and supported on the Professional Development website.

Professional Development

  1. Faculty must compile (3) different professional development activities during the year as defined and supported on the Professional Development website.

Annual Safety Training

  1. Faculty must complete all annual Safety Training as required by the College.
  2. Perform Other Campus and Program Duties as Assigned Including But Not Limited To Substitute teaching as required, budget development, advising co-program directors as requested, supporting and promoting the College, the campus, and the Computer Information Technology program, supporting student recruitment, assisting in the security of all College and program facilities, instruments, tools, materials, and equipment, and assist in supervising student help.
  3. Participation in determining and updating the Strategic Plan and completion of the annual Assessment process.
  4. Teach evening Continuing Education or off-campus Computer Information Technology classes or customized training classes.

Maintain and Upgrade program facilities, classroom, lab, tools, equipment, and instruments

  1. Share responsibility for the maintenance of all instructional facilities, equipment, and program classrooms to ensure that they are maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate’s Degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology and/or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  2. Tested experience by examination* during the interview process.

* Examination will include knowledge and/or physical demonstration of competencies related to s CAD, UAVs, and data processing, and practical and applicational knowledge related to the site survey and submission process.

* Relevant certifications that may substitute for test experience would include but are not limited to state surveyor licensure and/or Part 107 certification.

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

 

This is a full-time regular position with an implied 40-hour work week, based on a 175-day work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
