Farm Manager – FT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean of Agriculture and the Associate Dean, the Farm Manager manages and directs the overall operations and planning for the College’s working farm, livestock, ag facilities, and equipment. The Farm Manager supervises and schedules the Assistant Farm Manager, coordinates Ag-related functions with the Ag Faculty and Staff, and works with students while providing a safe and supportive learning environment. This is a full-time regular position.

Essential Functions

The Farm manager is responsible for planning and oversight of all College farm operations, including, but not limited to:

  1. Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with Faculty and Staff to coordinate Student Lab activities and Classroom Projects with Ag Production activities.
  2. Coordinating with Faculty and Staff for the purchase and transport of Ag inputs such as Livestock and their associated feed, vaccines, nutrients, hay, tack/gear; fence upkeep, repair, and replacement supplies; crop inputs such as seed, fertilizer, and chemicals; equipment and machinery repair and maintenance; and fuel, tires, and other ag-related supplies.
  3. Coordinate with Faculty and Staff for the sale and transport of Ag Produce such as Livestock, Grain, Feed, Hay, etc.
  4. Coordinating with the Dean of Agriculture and/or the Beatrice Campus Director regarding Crop Insurance, FSA, and other State and Federal Government requirements, Environmental requirements, maintenance, updates, and improvements for the College land lab, buildings, and property.
  5. Supervise temporary, part-time, and seasonal farm and livestock employees.
  6. Coordinate with the Dean of Agriculture to develop and maintain an annual budget for the Ag Production Cost Center.
  7. Maintain accurate inventories of Ag supplies such as livestock, grain (both on-site and off-site storage), chemicals, seed, hay, equipment, machinery, vehicles, etc.
  8. Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner that will project a positive image of the Ag Program and the College. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree plus two (2) years of recent experience in an Ag Production or Livestock Production environment, or
    • Associate Degree in Agriculture Production, Livestock Production, Ag Business, Ag Education, or a directly related field of study, plus four (4) years of experience in the Ag Production or Livestock environment.
  2. Valid driver’s license and the ability to qualify for auto insurance.
  3. Must currently hold, or must obtain within 12 months of hire, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:30 a.m.and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
