Sign Language Interpreter
Education Level and Certification: High school diploma or GED and post-high school training in signing and ability to meet NDE Rule 51 criteria for sign language interpreters is required.
Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks:
Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities; Provide information to assigned D/HH students in the educational setting using a manual sign system and perform related duties as requested; Assist in peer interaction in the educational setting; Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students; Assist students individually or in small groups to help them to reinforce learning concepts encountered or presented by teacher; Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers, Speech Language Pathologists and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialists to coordinate instructional efforts to meet IEP goals; Keep informed of current trends in the field of interpreting; Utilize instructional materials and other resources in a competent and effective manner, including computer, e-mail, and other technology to perform assigned duties; Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage; Present learning experiences to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using appropriate methods and techniques, etc….
Salary: Per Classified Negotiated Agreement; Start Date: 08/16/18
