Skilled and Technical Sciences Teacher

Job Overview: The Skilled and Technical Sciences teacher is responsible for instructing students in the areas of skilled trades, technical sciences, and vocational subjects. This role involves teaching practical skills, hands-on techniques, and theoretical knowledge in specialized fields such as basic engineering, construction, automobile maintenance, and C.A.D.. The teacher will foster an engaging learning environment, ensuring that students gain both academic and practical expertise to prepare them for future careers or post-secondary education in technical fields.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Development:

  • Plan, organize, and deliver high-quality lessons in Skilled and Technical Sciences, based on state/national standards.

  • Develop a curriculum that integrates both practical and theoretical learning, ensuring students acquire technical skills and knowledge.

  • Use a variety of teaching methods including lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and digital tools to cater to diverse learning styles.

  • Assess students’ progress through assignments, quizzes, practical projects, and exams.

Classroom Management:

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Ensure proper handling and maintenance of equipment and tools used in practical exercises.

  • Manage student behavior, enforcing school policies and maintaining discipline.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols related to tools, equipment, and materials used in technical labs or workshops.

  • Educate students on proper safety practices in various skilled trades and technical environments.

  • Ensure that all safety regulations, equipment maintenance, and hygiene standards are met.

Student Engagement and Support:

  • Provide individual or small group instruction to students who need additional assistance.

  • Encourage active participation in practical and theoretical tasks, motivating students to apply their learning to real-world scenarios.

  • Advocate for and offer career advice and mentorship, guiding students in making informed decisions about post-secondary opportunities or apprenticeships.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Collaborate with colleagues, industry professionals, and local businesses to create opportunities for internships, job shadowing, or community projects.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and educational practices in the skilled trades and technical sciences.

  • Participate in professional development activities to continuously improve teaching techniques and subject knowledge.

Professional Duties:

  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and assessment data.

  • Prepare reports and communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student performance and behavior.

  • Participate in school-wide meetings, events, and other administrative activities as required.
