School Psychologist
Job Overview: A school psychologist works within educational settings to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and administrators to create supportive learning environments and provide interventions for students facing challenges. School psychologists conduct assessments, develop plans for individualized support, and provide counseling services to students.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:

Administer psychological and educational assessments to identify students’ learning, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Analyze assessment data and collaborate with teachers and parents to design interventions.

Evaluate students for special education services in accordance with NDE Rule 51.
Counseling and Intervention:
-
Provide individual and group counseling to students struggling with emotional, behavioral, or social issues.

Develop and implement strategies to help students manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.

Provide crisis intervention and support for students in need of immediate assistance due to trauma, bullying, or other severe issues.
Collaboration and Consultation:

Work with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to develop strategies and interventions for students with diverse needs.

Consult with parents to provide insights into their child’s progress and offer strategies for home support.

Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
Prevention and Education:

Develop and deliver programs aimed at preventing bullying, substance abuse, and mental health challenges.

Conduct workshops or presentations to educate staff and students about mental health, learning strategies, and social-emotional skills.
Behavioral Support:

Collaborate with colleagues with the design and implementation of behavior intervention plans for students displaying disruptive behaviors.
Crisis Management:

Respond to school crises, providing support to students and staff in times of emergencies, such as natural disasters or incidents involving violence or loss.

Serve as a resource for grief counseling and provide guidance to students and families dealing with trauma.
Data Collection and Reporting:

Maintain detailed records of assessments, interventions, and student progress.

Analyze school-wide data to identify trends and help inform school policies regarding student mental health and well-being.
Professional Development:

Stay current with the latest research, best practices, and legal requirements in psychology, education, and special education.

Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
