Isanti Community Schools (Santee Community Schools) is located on Isanti Sioux tribal lands and serves a population of mostly students in the tribe. The school is the center of the community in many ways, acting as a gathering place for students and community members alike. This is an opportunity for a committed leader to generate a design for a high school that is culturally and linguistically appropriate, to deepen and strengthen ties between he school and the community and to create a positive staff culture where student and adult learning is paramount. The Secondary Principal provides the leadership, vision, and strategic direction of the secondary school across academics, community partnership, staff development, and long term planning.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

School Improvement

  • iSanti Community Schools is designated as a Priority District by the Nebraska Department of Education  and the Secondary school is newly (re) identified as a CSI school. The Secondary school leader will be responsible for progress against AQuESTT Indicators such as reducing chronic absenteeism, sustaining recent improvements to graduation rate, and  increasing student proficiency on NSCAS

  • The Secondary leader will also have the ability to co-design (in partnership with consulting firms supporting the school) a student experience for high school that is culturally and linguistically appropriate, including student coursework, exploration and engagement with career and service pathways, and incorporating student identity into their school experience

  • Collaborate with external partners to implement identified priorities; and engage in learning opportunities to develop leadership capabilities and adaptive skills 

Instructional Management

  • Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take updated actions where necessary

  • Understand and support in implementing instructional resources, curriculum, programs, and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals

  • Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public

  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process

  • Solicit regular input from various stakeholders about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of education programs. Include students and community representatives when appropriate

Management and Leadership

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to campus

  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff

  • Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals

  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities

  • Responsible for recruitment, retention, and development of staff 

School and Community Relations

  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission

  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement

  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent 

 

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred

  • Current administrative certification

  • At least 5 years of teaching experience

  • 2+ years of leadership experience

  • History of effectively coaching/mentoring both new and experienced teachers

  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures

  • Ability to be a team player and comfortable planning with others to achieve a common vision

  • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically

  • Strong time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members

  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work  

  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity

 

Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $92,305-$126,950 and also includes a competitive benefits package including health coverage (medical, dental, vision), Nebraska Retirement participation, life insurance, and long-term disability. The position can also include housing.
