Agriculture Teacher/FFA Sponsor

The Agriculture Teacher and FFA Sponsor at Potter-Dix Schools will provide a comprehensive agricultural education program that includes classroom instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and leadership development through the FFA program. The ideal candidate will be passionate about agriculture, dedicated to student success, and committed to fostering a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and implement engaging agricultural science curriculum for middle and high school students.
    • Integrate hands-on learning experiences, including labs, field trips, and community projects.
  2. Instruction:
    • Teach various agricultural subjects, including but not limited to plant science, animal science, agribusiness, and agricultural mechanics.
    • Employ diverse teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
  3. FFA Sponsorship:
    • Advise and support the local FFA chapter, including organizing meetings, activities, and events.
    • Guide students in developing leadership skills through participation in FFA competitions, conferences, and community service projects.
  4. Student Engagement:
    • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, inquiry, and collaboration.
    • Mentor students in career exploration and development in agricultural fields.
  5. Collaboration:
    • Work with other teachers, staff, and administration to promote interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives.
    • Engage with parents, community members, and local organizations to support educational programs.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Stay current with agricultural trends, educational best practices, and FFA developments.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities and workshops.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education or a related field.
  • Valid Nebraska teaching certificate in Agriculture Education (or eligibility for certification).
  • Experience with FFA programs and leadership development is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for teaching and working with students in agricultural education.

Working Conditions:

  • Classroom and laboratory environments, as well as outdoor settings for hands-on learning.
  • Occasional evening and weekend commitments for FFA events and activities.

Additional Information

This position is for the 25-26 school year and will begin in August 2025. There will be an opportunity for summer work time prior to August to conduct summer FFA activities. The FFA adviser position is an extra duty position which will be paid based on years of experience. Base salary currently for Potter-Dix Schools is $39,000 and the candidate will have the opportunity for an extended contract. Potter-Dix also pays full insurance which is through Blue Cross Blue Shield Nebraska. Potter-Dix does take all years of service as well and participates in the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement System.
