Elementary Principal

JOB TITLE:  ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters Degree with a major in educational administration
  • Valid state certification in administration and supervision
  • Experience in school administration and supervision preferred, but not required
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM:  Superintendent and Central Office Directors

JOB GOAL:  Lead all phases of operations within the school, including: buildings and grounds, supervision and evaluation of classified and certificated staff; coordination of activities and accountability for curriculum and instructional decisions within the school building, utilization of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote a safe and nurturing learning environment conducive to the educational development of all students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  230 days: salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Consistent and punctual “on site” attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
  • Serves as the instructional leader of the school, insuring the implementation of best practices in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
  • Maintains a positive school climate and effectively manages student discipline.
  • Evaluates existing programs and practices; including curriculum content and pilot programs
  • Oversees a program of instructional supervision and evaluation, including classroom and teaching observations in accordance with board policies
  • Supervises and evaluates personnel; assesses employee performance. Provides guidance, accountability,  and support as needed.
  • Leads in the selection of new teachers and classified personnel
  • Implements curriculum and establishes educational objectives consistent with district goals
  • Keeps students, staff, parents, community and central office administrators informed of building activities; Responds to parent and patron complaints effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintains accountability and proper documentation for the school budget, support services, communications, professional development, and student discipline
  • Implements plans, procedures and responsibilities relative to school district policies; including building objectives, district programs and curriculum; building plans for instruction, and efficient utilization of resources
  • Motivates others to achieve personal, building and district goals
  • Participates as member of the district leadership team
  • Works effectively with PTA and the Board of Education
  • Establishes teacher expectations that encourages accountability, growth, and excellence; Facilitates professional growth activities for staff
  • Monitors student achievement by collecting and analyzing data in accordance with state and local standards and the current needs of students
  • Assists teachers in planning field trips and using community resources
  • Develops a master schedule that maximizes student learning
  • Coordinates the integration of subject matter specialists, resource teachers, and other building staff
  • Assures that teachers are assigned to areas in which they are endorsed and ensures that teachers are making required progress toward completion of provisional endorsements if applicable
  • Monitors expenditures and ensures good fiscal management of appropriated school funds, follows approved purchasing procedures, maintains furniture and equipment inventories
  • Coordinates building rentals with the Director of Business Services
  • Leads the school improvement process, utilizing school improvement teams to set and analyze annual building goals
  • Addresses staff, parent, and student concerns in a timely manner
  • Continues to grow professionally through collaboration and professional growth experiences
  • Responsible for other duties as they may be assigned by the Central Office Directors, the Superintendent, or the Board of Education
