6th and 7th Grade Language Arts Teacher

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is seeking qualified applicants for a middle school Language Arts teacher. The teacher will:

• work daily in a Catholic faith-filled teaching environment to form and develop students.

• set high classroom expectations in all areas.

• develop and implement daily 6th and 7th-grade lesson plans as part of a long-term scope and sequence aligned to Archdiocese Language Arts Curriculum

• use a variety of rigorous formative and summative assessments to evaluate individual academic progress and adjust instructional plans to meet the needs of students

• set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that align with school-wide values and policies.

• work daily in a Catholic faith-filled teaching environment to form and develop students.

• demonstrate a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom.

• employ a variety of teaching models to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom.

• prepare motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, instructional strategies, and student abilities.

• encourage an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective.

• integrate social-emotional learning within the classroom environment through teaching and classroom management.

• create a learning environment that is motivating and age-appropriate.

• seek to actively know students’ strengths and weaknesses and respond promptly and with care to parent concerns. 

• communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators.

• maintain an accurate and organized system for monitoring student grades and records. Meet reporting deadlines and requirements and follow school-wide procedures for reporting grades.

• prepare for conferences and provide written documentation on student progress.

• maintain substitute plans and engage substitutes in advance when needed.

• demonstrate strong classroom management skills.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrates a willingness to learn, grow, and improve as a teacher.

• Prefer experience with Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment.

• Prefer experience in small group instruction as well as instructional routines.

• Continues to update knowledge of the content area(s) taught.

• Engages in goal setting and review process with the administrator.

• Attends and participates in departmental, faculty, and Archdiocesan meetings.

• Maintain a positive attitude and approach.

• Support colleagues in and out of the classroom.

• Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner.

• Assist with projects and school-wide initiatives.

Education and Experience

• Middle School Endorsement in LA preferred

• Prefer experience with Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment.

• Middle School teaching experience preferred

• Must possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate.


• Safe Environment and Background Check needed before start date.
