Instrumental Music Teacher, 4 – 12

JOB TITLE: INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC TEACHER, GRADES 4 – 12

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Instrumental Music
  • Valid Nebraska Certificate with an endorsement in Instrumental Music
  • Successful teaching and/or practice teaching experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate

JOB GOAL: To organize and conduct a learning program that will enable students to master appropriate levels of subject matter, skills, and appreciation of music. The teacher shall make a contribution that will assist the student in the development of a positive self-image

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month year or as established by the Board of Education

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a punctual and reliable basis
  • Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with music curriculum guidelines
  • Directs and supervises small and large group activities
  • Supervises student behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well-being of students and staff
  • Selects materials suitable for designated learning objectives
  • Shows concern for all students, not just those displaying musical talent and abilities
  • Keeps accurate attendance and progress records
  • Utilizes a variety of analytical and evaluative techniques in auditioning and placement of students
  • Communicates positive support of the students in their musical development
  • Relates with staff, parents, and community stakeholders through positive professional cooperation
  • Supervises and provides individual and/or ensemble music lessons as time permits
  • Arranges transportation of performance groups and other related items to various locations
  • Plans, organizes, rehearses, and conducts in-school and out-of-school performances of small and large groups
  • Maintains and replaces uniforms and other related items
  • Assist with practice for Marching Band at least 2 weeks prior to the beginning of each school year
  • Conduct daily and/or weekly instructional sessions for Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Junior High Band, Senior High Band, and Jazz Band

 

Occasional:

  • Collect fees from students
  • Prepares and submits budget documents for groups, travel, equipment, and supplies
  • Balance accounts
  • Work with the drama department on joint musical productions
  • Suggest a positive recommendation for the continuing review and development of the curriculum
  • Inform students of upcoming honor bands, All-State Band, etc.
  • Assist students in taping auditions of honor band, all State Band, etc.
  • Actively participates in scheduled staff meetings and serves on educational committees
  • Assumes responsibility for periodic conferences with parents
  • Remains current with professional training and shows evidence of regular professional growth
  • Recognizes the extracurricular program as integral to the educational development of the student
  • Performs extra duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong auditory acuity for music direction, auditioning, etc.
  • Ability to lead and supervise large and small groups
  • Musical performance talent
  • Skills in oral and written communication, organization, human relations, assessment, and evaluation
  • Ability to deal with stress
  • Availability for extra duty hours
