Family Consumer Sciences Teacher, 8th Grade (Anticipated)



  • Bachelor’s Degree with endorsement in Family/Consumer Science
  • Successful teaching and/or practice teaching experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal


JOB GOAL:  Strive to improve public relations and to develop an open communication with students and parents of students enrolled in Family/Consumer Science.  To organize and conduct a learning situation which will enable students to master appropriate levels of subject matter, skill in communication, an appreciation of our culture and heritage, and a respect for the rights of others.  The classroom teacher shall make a positive contribution which will assist the student in his/her development as a mature, able and responsible adult.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine month year or as established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy


  • Consistent and punctual “on site” attendance at the worksite is an essential job function.
  • Performs all functions of classroom teacher
  • Develops, implements and evaluates curriculum in one or more of the following family/consumer science areas, depending on building and course assigned:  foods and nutrition, child development and parenting, housing, creative textiles, consumer economics/adult living, clothing, teen parenting, occupational skills, today’s teen, a new you
  • Selects, prepares, demonstrates and supervises “lab” experiences for students
  • Teaches personal and equipment safety
  • Prepares and submits an annual budget for equipment for students
  • Maintains equipment, requests repairs and replacements
  • Collects lab fees
  • Involve advanced students in individualized projects
  • Promotes program to students, parents, colleagues and community
  • To compile and complete the required state reports
  • To attend and participate in workshops to become aware of new innovations and techniques in teaching and curriculum planning
  • To contact and visit with local business personnel for field trips and speakers
  • To provide worthwhile projects that connot be accomplished during the school year for students who desire more knowledge of family/consumer science related areas and occupations
