Administrative Assistant I/Substitute Teacher – Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility Education

Examples of Work

Serves as Administrative Assistant AND Substitute Teacher for NCYF Community High School under the supervision of the Career and Services Program Manager at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility. Fill in as substitute teacher on an as needed basis. Work with several data tracking programs such as SIMS, LACES, and NICAMS. Track new student enrollment verifications to verify GED/High School diploma entry. May also proctor standardized testing sessions, oversee Education Orientation for new inmates, and coordinate educational material delivery for high school students housed at other facilities.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Experience in office management; or in developing and implementing work policies, processes and procedures; or in monitoring and organizing program, administrative, or technical activities OR post high school coursework in: administration, management, accounting, finance, planning, policy analysis, administrative/management analysis, operations research, program evaluation, research, or similar fields.

PREFERRED: Experience managing attendance or class rosters; reviewing and evaluating student transcripts; and documenting School Lunch Program requirements. Experience using one or more STUDENT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, and Acellus Virtual School.

OTHER: Must be able to obtain a Local Substitute Teaching Permit for Nebraska within 60 days of hire. Must have a valid driver’s license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong organizational skills and effective telephonic communication. Proficient on PC and have experience working with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of multiple databases.
