PAY BASED ON THE STATE CODE AGENCIES TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (SCATA) CONTRACT, EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. Seeking to fill a full-time position. Provide year round adult education instruction of Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, Career Readiness academic core, and English as a Second Language in a correctional facility.

Examples of Work

Plan lessons for individual students and groups of students. Teach group classes in math, science, social studies, reading and language. Instruct a program for English as a second language as needed. Work with students whose abilities range from 0 to 12.9+ grade levels. Document classroom activities weekly. Maintain supervision and discipline in the classroom. Supervise and train inmate teacher aides. Complete monthly payroll for inmates. Identify student learning materials for purchase. Monitor area for cleanliness and order supplies. Develop and produce learning boards, computer generated worksheets, tests, lessons, classroom management tools, and other items as needed. Maintain various computer based data management system requirements related to education. Work with existing staff to develop a team approach to education. Maintain tool control and inventory. Complete safety and sanitation reports for designated areas. Assist with maintaining Education LACES and NICaMS data.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

PREFERRED: Background working with at risk or high risk students and/or in a correctional setting. Training in Orton-Gillingham and familiarity with Acellus.

OTHER: Complete training through the Nebraska Department of Adult Education. Must provide copy of certification and transcripts. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass a pre-employment medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
