Superintendent – Lexington Public Schools
Lexington Public Schools serves approximately 3,300 students in their Pre-K – 12th grade program. Following a period of rapid ethnic diversification, the schools and community are the recipients of rich cultural benefits. As a district, their goal is to provide a balanced educational foundation for ALL students. Lexington Public Schools supports and instructs rigorous academic standards and holds high expectations for the student body. Lexington Public Schools views learning as a life-long process and provides numerous educational opportunities for all students. The secondary program offers a significant number of dual college credit opportunities. The district proudly serves over 250 students in the early childhood programs; over a thousand students whose first language is one other than English as well as 350 students in a Spanish/English Dual Language Program.
Lexington, Nebraska, is a vibrant city of approximately 10,800 residents located in Dawson County along the Platte River in south-central Nebraska. It is located about nine miles northeast of Johnson Lake, 40 minutes west of Kearney and one hour SE of North Platte. Founded in 1871, Lexington retains rich frontier-era roots. Today it is the county seat and a hub for agriculture and industry. The community offers a quality blend of Midwest charm and modern amenities including outdoor recreation, cultural experiences, and local flavor.
Lexington is home to the Dawson County Historical Museum, Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles, Family Aquatic Center, Fieldhouse, Public Library, Skate Park, and four golf courses in the near vicinity. There are plenty of options for dining out as well as a visit to Mac’s Creek Winery & Brewery. Local businesses and amenities include health care, banking, insurance, clothing shops, factories, auto sales, machinery, and many service based businesses. The community has a Lions Club, Rotary Club, and an Optimist Club. Youth activities are offered through the Orthman Community YMCA.
The district is looking for applicants to:
- Possess strong expertise in educational growth and a deep understanding of education practices
- Engage with parents, local leaders, and community members to support academic success
- Build relationships with the diverse student population and be committed to meeting the needs of all students
- Utilize prior school finance and budget experience to be fiscally responsible with a sizeable budget
