Afternoon Assistant Teacher/After Care Program Supervisor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development; or

  • Hold an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development; or

  • Have a Child Development Associate Credential

Other bachelor’s or associate’s degrees will be considered with previous work experience in Montessori or early childhood education

*Will also consider:

  • individuals who have a high school diploma or GED; and 1500 verified clock hours of experience in organized group activities for young children as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor; or

  • individuals who have at least three credit hours or 45 clock hours of training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.  Must be age 18 or older.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Directress in:
    a. Protecting the safety and well-being of the children
    b. Preparing curriculum materials as directed
    c. Care and maintenance of environment:
    i. Dusting and refilling supplies
    ii. Repairing materials as necessary
    iii. Organizing storage/assisting in inventory
    iv. Setting up and cleaning up classroom each day

  • Supervises children’s use of materials as directed

  • Works with individual and small groups of children

  • Uses positive language in all interactions

  • Actively participate in all required professional development and learning activities

  • Must support behavioral guidelines given by the Executive Director and the Directress

  • Assists parents/guardians in checking out children with the attendance book

  • Supervises children and facilitate activities within the designated After Care indoor area or outdoor classroom

  • Participates in all staff meetings as requested by the Executive Director

  • Reports unregistered children to the Executive Director

  • Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in all required professional development and learning activities

  • Shares information with students’ Directresses

Additional Information

Schedule (immediate start date)

  • 1pm until 5:45pm (or until the last child is picked up from the After Care Program which could be as early as 4:30pm)

  • Additional substitute hours available with most shifts being from 8:30am-12:30pm on days the school is open for students during each academic school year (approximately the 3rd week in August through the 4th week in May)

  • Additional daytime, evening, or weekend hours will be required for completing annual in-service training opportunities (6-12 hours per year depending on the average number of hours worked each week)

  • Additional morning hours may be available as Substitute Assistant Teacher during Summer Enrichment Program (typically offered 4 weeks in June and 2 weeks in July)
