Due to anticipated retirements, Mitchell Public Schools is seeking 2 Upper Elementary Teachers for the 2025-2026 School Year. Positions will include a homeroom of 5th or 6th grade students and a content area of either Reading or Science. 5th and 6th grade students receive content specific instruction for five “periods” or classes per day (Reading, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Math) on a rotational basis. Teachers will have two “preps” per day–5th grade and 6th grade. Classrooms are approximately 20 students per classroom.

Mitchell has a 4.5 day student week with a 12:30 dismissal. Teachers have staff development every-other-Friday resulting in the rotation of 1:00 and 3:00 dismissals on Fridays. MPS has a 184-day teacher contract with 177 student contact days.
Applicants must have or be able to obtain a Nebraska Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education or Middle School Education w/endorsement in Reading/ELA or Science. All years of experience and hours of additional education meeting requirements will be considered.

Starting (base) salary for the 2025-2026 school year will be $40,000 with an additional flat salary (can be applied towards insurance or to cover insurance needs) of $19,000. MPS offers compensation of 1/2 of a BCBS Health and/or Dental policy with a $650 deductible as an insurance option if desired.
MPS offers 10 flex days per year with the opportunity to be compensated unused days each year or the ability to bank unused days into a personal sick bank.
