Special Education Teacher PK-8

The Madonna Community of Inclusive Education & Services, a partnership offered by Madonna Ability Alliance dedicated to expanding inclusive education opportunities for students with special needs, seeks a highly qualified PK-8 Special Education Teacher for a full-time position at St. Pius X/St. Leo, Holy Name or St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Schools. Working as a member of the partner school faculty/staff, and as a partner to Madonna Community leadership, the PK-8 Special Education Teacher will coordinate and execute evidence-based learning strategies and interventions to support all students with individualized learning plans, including students with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Special Education Teacher will support the efforts lead the partner school and Madonna Community leadership to provide on-site coaching, assistance and professional development opportunities to all teachers and staff. The Special Education Teacher will be a pivotal resource in strengthening relations between home, parish, school and classroom, as well as improving inclusive instructional practices throughout the school.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement annual individualized student plans
  • Schedule individualized student plan meetings with team members
  • Collect data for on-going progress monitoring
  • Apply evidence-based learning strategies and interventions to support student’s individualized plans and progress
  • Manage a safe and effective learning environment
  • Collaborate and consult with general education teachers, administrators, parents and community partners to support each student’s learning outcomes
  • Serve as a local, school-based expert in the area of inclusive Special Education and model ongoing and continuous professional development
  • Partner with Madonna Coalition leadership and school administration to establish and improve inclusive instructional practices at St. Pius X/St. Leo Catholic School through a set of extended contract/stipend duties and opportunities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Special Education
  • Master’s in Education or related field preferred but not required
  • Must hold a valid Special Education license in the state of Nebraska

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Have a mastery of developing, coordinating and delivering inclusive individualized instructional and educational services to students with learning needs, including students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities
  • Have a mastery of the processes and procedures of providing special education services within an inclusive framework, including co-teaching practices
  • Ability to effectively analyze student needs and problem solve leveraging available resources
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents, teachers, administrators and community partners
