Head Volleyball Coach

Leyton Public Schools is accepting applications for the position of Head Volleyball Coach for the fall of 2021.

REPORTS TO:              Athletic/Activities Director, Principal, Superintendent

STIPEND:                     Per Negotiated Agreement

HOURS OF WORK:      As Needed To Attend Practices and Games

DAYS OF WORK:         As Governed by the NSAA, School Days and Weekends in Season Depending on Post-season Performance, Some Summer Days for Conditioning and Camps

DUTIES:

  • Coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for progressive achievement in the activity involved
  • Communicating with the superintendent, principal, athletic/activities director, assistant coach(es), teachers, and parents regarding participation requirements via emails, meetings, and/or individual activity Team Handbooks
  • Communicating with athletic/activities director on participant numbers, scheduling of practices, meetings, events, transportation, and the progress of students
  • Maintaining necessary attendance forms, insurance records (where applicable), or other pertinent records (Some records may be filed with the activities director.)
  • Maintaining an inventory of equipment and materials as they relate to his or her assigned program. Inspecting and maintaining equipment, and assuring the safety of equipment and school district facilities.
  • Working with the activities director in the scheduling of interscholastic activities and travel arrangements
  • Assigning duties to all coaches under his or her direction, evaluating their performance, and seeing that they fulfill their duties and responsibilities
  • Reviewing the insurance program with participating students. Making sure students have proper physical examinations and NSAA Parent Consent forms that have been signed by parents and turned in.  Maintaining a binder with all student records.
  • Overseeing the safety conditions of the school district facilities or areas in which activities are conducted during the time that students are present
  • Following NSAA guidelines/protocol for student safety, game rules, and coach behaviors. This includes completing on-line courses and attending rules meetings prior to the start of the activity.  The health and safety of students shall be of prime importance.  Head coaches shall be responsible for caring for injured students performing under his or her direction until additional medical assistance is secured.  In the absence of a nurse or other medical personnel, head coaches shall see that the injured student is adequately supervised and, if necessary, accompanied to the hospital.  Head coaches shall see that the injured student’s parents or legal guardian are notified.  For all injuries which require the attention of additional medical personnel, a written report shall be made to the activities director.
  • Coordinating injured athletes with local hospital athletic trainers
  • Enforcing eligibility rules in interscholastic participation in his or her activity
  • Enforcing discipline and teaching sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishing and overseeing penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. Each head coach shall be responsible for seeing that all rules or penalties are applied consistently between all participants.
  • Coordinating with the activities director on expenditures from the athletic/activity fund and in maintaining individual activity accounts. Head coaches shall be responsible for all expenditures from these accounts as pertains to their programs.
  • Submitting a year-end summary to the activities director that documents equipment inventories and any other pertinent information requested
  • Sponsoring Leyton’s Letterman Club and award athletic letters at Honors Night
  • Directing athletes in fundraising activities
  • Coordinating Parents’ Night activities
  • Spending time outside during inclement weather, as needed
  • Performing other tasks and duties as assigned.
