Behavior Support Specialist
Kimball Public Schools has an opening for a Behavior Support Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year. The successful candidate will be the case manager for the behavior plans in the district. The ideal candidate will have (or be working towards) an endorsement in special education. This is a 1.0 FTE/ 162-day contract for the Behavior Support Specialist position and it will begin on or around August 15, 2025. Kimball Public Schools is a 1:1 chromebook school that operates on a four-day week with mostly Fridays off throughout the school year for staff and students. One day a month is utilized for staff professional development activities. Extra duty assignments may be available with this position.
The job description for the position is as follows:

Observes, models, trains, and coaches staff on the implementation of all Behavior Intervention Plans serving individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities

Provides consultation to classroom teachers, parents, and principals

Conducts Functional Behavior Assessment/analysis

Collects assessment data and uses it effectively to plan academic and behavioral programming

Monitors for implementation fidelity

Manages/Conducts Debriefing of behavioral incidents

Enable students who are behaviorally disabled to derive the best possible educational experience from school through appropriate remediation, curriculum modification, direct special education instruction, and behavioral and social skill development

Maintain a dual role of working with individual or small groups of students and collaborating with the classroom teacher to provide a coordinated program that best fits the individual needs of each student.

Coordinates with other building personnel to ensure that adequate communication is maintained with each student’s parents/guardians to keep them informed

Review IEPs to ensure compliance per Rule 51.

Active member on the MDT team

Teach and reinforce academic and behavioral skills to foster success in the regular classroom

Lead sessions to enhance social development

Observe and monitor control of students’ behavior in the classroom, playground, field trips, lunchroom, library, school buses, and other areas

Knowledge of use a behavior management system

Knowledge in Special Education and practice with autism, emotional disturbance, moderate/severe disabilities, as well as general education and special education settings

Build strong, positive professional relationships through clear communication and follow-through

Ability to respond fully to quickly escalating behavioral situations

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Leadership skills and ability to work independently
Additional Information
Base Salary – $39,600 (4 x 5 Salary Schedule)
Sign on, Renewal, and Relocation Bonuses are available with this position.

Kimball Public Schools is located in Kimball, NE in the southern Panhandle where Nebraska meets Colorado and Wyoming. The district has a stable enrollment of approximately 400 PreK-12 students and is fully accredited by the state of Nebraska. Kimball boasts an 18-hole golf course, Oliver Reservoir, a movie theater, and multiple restaurants and downtown businesses among its many amenities. Located along Interstate 80, Kimball residents can be in the Front Range of Colorado in less than two hours and are less than an hours drive to the regional hubs of Cheyenne, WY and Scottsbluff.
