Kearney Public Schools, a Class A District serving 6000 students PK-12, is accepting applications for Director of PK-5- Education starting the 2025-2026 school year. This position has a 260 day contract with competitive salary and benefits Start date is July 1, 2025.
Qualifications
- Valid Administrator’s Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years in Education with 3 years in Administration
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)
- Updates the Superintendent, administrators, and staff members on current educational developments and instructional programs in grades PK-5.
- Directs and assists in the selection, implementation, articulation, and evaluation of PK-5 core learning materials.
- Supervises and evaluates building principals in grades PK-5.
- Advises PK-5 principals on all building operational matters.
- Assists PK-5 principals in the organization of the school day for pupils.
- Plans and coordinates periodic PK-5 Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment reports and presentations to the Board of Education as directed by the Superintendent.
- Works with other Central Office Administration to provide leadership for MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and is a member of the MTSS Executive Leadership Team.
- Supervises and evaluates the PK-5 MTSS Coordinator.
- Leads regularly scheduled meetings of PK-5 principals.
- Oversees grade level coordinators and grade level meetings.
- Coordinates and directs the district’s PK-5 collaboration meetings twice a year.
- Coordinates activities of committee evaluations and monitoring of PK-5 instructional programs.
- Overseas and leads all aspects of PK-5 assessment, training, and reporting.
- Oversees the early childhood program, Sixpence program and grant, and the Family Engagement Center.
- Guides K-5 report card and grading guidelines.
- Assists in the leadership for the PK-5 school improvement processes, organizes building data retreats, and helps to organize the system school improvement reports for 5-year accreditation planning.
- Participates as a member of the district Crisis Response Team, Threat Assessment Team, and District Security Team.
- Coordinates, guides, and gives general leadership to PK-5 Elementary Art, Physical Education and Music teachers through supervision and collaboration with principals of these programs.
- Oversees Junior Achievement Programs at PK-5 level.
- Directs PK-5 SAT plans for student accommodations.
- Leads the PK-5 Career Education programs and activities.
- Oversees the district media and library services for grades PK-5.
- Provides continual research and appraisal of PK-5 instructional programs in conjunction with efforts of staff and committee monitoring.
- Serves as the district liaison between college and university Schools of Education and Kearney Public’s PK-5 schools.
- Serves as the KPS representative for the Buffalo County Community Partners and other agencies requesting partnership with representation from Kearney Public Schools as directed by the Superintendent.
- Provides resource assistance to professional, community, and citizen committees.
- Visits district schools on a regular basis to monitor the effects of district programs on student learning and to obtain input on the needs of Instructional personnel.
- Leads the selection, administration, collection, analysis, and reporting of all assessment and student learning data.
- Monitors, reviews, and evaluates district testing programs for grades PK-5 and makes recommendations for changes to the Superintendent.
- Prepares all state and federal mandated documents and reports related to PK-5 curriculum and assessment.
- Oversees state and federal accountability systems for grades PK-5.
- Assists the Associate Superintendent/Director of Finance with the coordination of federal and state funded programs relating to PK-5 student instructional programs.
- Prepares district reports required for continued accreditation by the state department.
- Coordinates PK-5 requests for observers or researchers to be hosted in district schools.
- Prepares and maintains budgets pertaining to Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Staff Development with the Associate Superintendent/Director of Finance and the Director of Human Resources.
- Provides compliance assurances through collaboration with the Associate Superintendent/Director of Finance and other Central Office Administration to insure State/Federal data reporting accuracy.
- Serves as a district Title IX investigator.
- Develops and submits to the Superintendent a list of personal/professional educational goals.
- Participates as an active and contributing member of the administrative team.
- Belongs to, supports, and participates in educational organizations which promote the improvement of instruction and staff development.
- Stays abreast of current trends, developments, and educational ideas through professional journals and publications and by attending appropriate seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Attends all board meetings and board committee meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
- Performs any other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
