Classroom Teacher / 2nd and 3rd Grade

We are currently seeking an elementary teacher for 2nd and 3rd grade. This position would be for the 2023-2024 school year. We are a small Catholic school in Ogallala, NE. Our enrollment will be about 55 students from grades K-5. We also have a preschool of 39 students for 3/4 year olds and pre-kindergarten children. Each elementary class is limited to 12 students, The position we are hiring for is expected to have 12 second graders and 6 third grade students.
The teacher is responsible to planning lessons and meeting specific skills and concepts based on the Nebraska State Standards in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science. We also require religious based lessons following curriculum provided by Catholic resources. Classroom management is expected to allow all students the opportunity to grow and learn in a safe and positive environment.
We have up-to-date curriculum and resources for all subject areas. We are able to provide one-to-one educational technology devices and display boards. Our school benefits from very few behavior issues. We have the ability to transfer students to the public school if behavioral problems are unresolved. The families are highly invested in their children’s lives and education. The support from our parents and our parish family is incredible! We enjoy a positive alliance with our local public school. They provide our lunch service, before and after school busing, specialized teachers to meet individual educational needs, and collaboration to support all learners.
We have a staff of 6 teachers. We all work closely to collaborate, support, and assist one another on a daily basis! Recess duty is not typically required for the classroom teachers, although one lunch duty is expected each week.

The salary is slightly lower than the pay at a public school. We take into consideration experience and education when determining each person’s salary. Benefits include individual health insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield, retirement, and the ability to join Aflac.
There are many non-monetary benefits to include: no administrative systems to make unnecessary demands on teacher’s time or unrelated expectations, and the ability to make logical, practical decisions quickly and easily, small caring staff able to recognize and support specific teacher needs, freedom to teach powerful authentic lessons outside of rigid curriculum control, many resources available for purchasing and providing classroom needs.
We require a bachelor’s degree and Nebraska teaching certificate. We would love to have a Catholic candidate, although this is not a requirement. Several of our current teachers are not Catholic. We do expect teachers to comply with the traditions of the Church when instructing our students.
Our school year will begin on August 24, 2023 and end on May 16, 2024. Teachers are expected to be at school from 7:45-3:45. Monthly staff meetings are scheduled on the third Tuesday with occasional exceptions.
