Special Education Elementary Behavior Teacher–Grand Island Public Schools –Skills Academy

Position Purpose:  Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Supervisor, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students’ specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

Job Responsibilities: 

 

  • Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.

  • Participates in developing Individual Educational Plans (“IEP”) for students. 

  • Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students’ IEP’s and behavior management plans. 

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures according to the building wide positive support plan for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.

  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.

  • Adjust teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.

  • Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, or social studies.

  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.

  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate

Salary Range–$43,500-$89,000 (depending on experience and degree level)
