Junior/Senior HIgh School Secretary

Description of Position:

The secondary school secretary, under the general supervision of the Principal or designee, performs a variety of confidential secretarial and clerical responsibilities necessary for the success of the school office. They will assist the principal and school staff by performing a variety of clerical tasks requiring detailed knowledge of school procedures and assist in the management of Freeman’s Activity Fund. The school secretary acts as a liaison between the principal with staff, students, parents, and community. 

Work Year: 260 Days

Hours: 40 hours per week

Single Health Insurance provided

Hourly wages determined based on experience

Qualifications:

  1. Experience in secretarial and clerical procedures as well as computer/data processing.

  2. Demonstrate skills, including keyboarding, general bookkeeping skills, organizational and filing skills, and the ability to utilize word processing and data management.

  3. Proficient in a variety of current technologies and software. Efficient and accurate word processing and keyboarding skills. 

  4. Ability to work independently and alongside the principal and staff. 

  5. Ability to relate to students and staff with respect, tact, and understanding. 

  6. Demonstrate telephone etiquette, with proper voice inflection. 

  7. Training in first aid procedures and applications (Freeman will train if needed).

Potential Job Functions and Responsibilities

 

  1. Greet visitors and callers, communicating effectively in routine, sensitive, and confidential situations.

  2. Learns and operates Power School – Freeman’s student data management program.

  3. Works with students, parents, and staff regarding attendance.

  4. Assists Principal with day-to-day operations of the secondary school 

  5. Coordinates and manages daily announcements, school calendar of events, and facility use requests.

  6. Manages purchases and intake of funds into the Activity Fund

  7. Maintains staff absentee records and collects all relevant absentee reports.

  8. Contacts and organizes substitutes and class covers.

  9. Assists with annual supply order.

  10. Assists with daily activities of the Athletic/Activities Department – Includes writing checks for officials, managing cash for events, organize team rosters/programs, data entry for NSAA/Activities Department.

  11. Administers First Aid and daily medicine in the absence of school nurse and prepares accident reports when necessary.
