Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Required Qualifications

  1. Knowledge and demonstration of “best practice” in teaching

  2. Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade level.

  4. Knowledge of the Nebraska Teaching Standards

  5. Knowledge of special education and section 504

  6. Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues.

  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  8. Data-driven decision-making skills to ensure access to grade-level standards for all students.

  9. Proven regular/consistent communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders.

  10. Demonstrate the ability to modify/enhance curriculum & instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students

Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher required. 

Certification/Licensure

  1. Must at all times during employment possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate with an elementary education endorsement and such other endorsements as may be required by NDE Rules 10 and 24 and all other certification and training as required or assigned.

  1. Recent experience in K-6 elementary classrooms

  2. Background knowledge and understanding of the science of reading.

  3. Demonstrated experience and/or strong understanding of the MTSS process and system of development and monitoring student progress

  4. Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction for high-achieving students

  5. Ability to develop data-based SMART goals and aligned action plans to support student learning and professional growth.

  6. Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth

  7. Demonstrate the ability to reflect on own practice

  8. Desire to coach one or more extracurricular activities.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, and student learning.

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction

  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students’ needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

  • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the c school system.

  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school’s standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  • Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.

  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.

  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools is a rural school with proud academic traditions and great community support.  We are located in Central Nebraska right off of I-80, serving the communities of Doniphan and Trumbull.  Both towns are approximately 12 miles apart, and within 15 miles from the cities of Hastings and Grand Island.  Many of our nearly 450 students come from neighboring farms, or larger housing developments at Amick Acres, and a significant number have parents working in the neighboring tri-cities area.  Approximately 85% of our students graduate and go onto higher education and our school was a recipient of the ReVision Grant from NDE for the 2021-22 school year focusing on the expansion of CTE to include a CNA teaching lab on site.  Our Elementary has been rated as Good and has continually focused on the science of reading and making ambitious growth rates.
