JOB DESCRIPTION
Educational Service Unit #3 is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Itinerant) to support students from birth through age 21 across partnering school districts. This role provides direct and consultative services aligned to each student’s IEP or IFSP, with a strong focus on access to the general education environment, individualized instruction, and student growth in language, academic, and social-emotional skills.
The ideal candidate brings expertise in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education, communication modalities, and amplification technology, along with strong collaboration and organizational skills. Description: To facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing the contracting district’s approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) as required by the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Essential Requirements:

Nebraska State Teacher Certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education with an endorsement applicable to the teaching assignment.

No history of child abuse or negligence, and able to successfully pass required background checks.

Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment. The assigned duties of this position may allow consideration of occasional/infrequent remote work with the approval of the supervisor. Remote work is subject to the remote work guidelines and conditions outlined in the job description. The supervisor may withdraw the remote work option at any time.
Essential Responsibilities:

Understands and complies with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.

Provides comprehensive services for children ages Birth-21 who are DHH within each contracting school district, promoting access to the general education setting to the fullest extent possible.

Demonstrates knowledge of DHH education, including current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, differentiated instruction, communication modalities including sign language and listening and spoken language, and amplification technologies.

Plans and implements student services, including development of IEPs and IFSPs, while effectively using computer networks and software applications.

Provides direct or consultative instructional strategies, interventions, and diagnostic services on a scheduled basis to students who are DHH.

Demonstrates organizational and collaboration skills, including the ability to coordinate work, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, and communicate effectively with DHH students and their families.

Displays a commitment to professional growth, including ongoing self-evaluation and continuous improvement of performance.

Develops and administers PreK-12+ curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives and or the extended alternate curriculum indicators.

Demonstrates knowledge of educational laws and data systems, including applicable federal and state regulations, data information systems, data analysis, and development of action plans.

Plans, implements and evaluates individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills.

Provides appropriate individual assessment of problems resulting from a hearing loss for the purpose of making recommendations for program placement and services.

Provides support and training to students and teachers involving individual and classroom amplification systems used by students who are DHH.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs on an alternate curriculum.

Maintains familiarity with district and state standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement and performance on such tests.

Remains current in the field, attends professional development, and contributes to district and statewide initiatives related to students who are DHH.

Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by ESU procedures and applicable laws.

Displays appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, administrators, teachers, co-workers, and community members.

Provides an appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable student behavior, attitudes, and social skills.

Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Maintains a regular and predictable attendance history while employed by the ESU.

Reviews and responds to written and verbal communication in a timely manner.

Provides own transportation to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, including travel to multiple site locations for service delivery.

Arrives at the first school building/district/program assigned in schedule at the regular start of that program’s work day (i.e., 7:45 a.m), or earlier if requested, and works through the day until 4:30 p.m. or later if requested.

At Will Employment: Employment with ESU #3 is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Employment with ESU #3 is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or inconsistent with those stated in this job description. The terms of this job description may not be modified except in a writing signed by the ESU #3 CEO.
