Music Instructor (K-12)
The Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District #117 in Benkelman, NE is seeking qualified applicants for the position of K-12 Music Instructor. The position is being filled by a substitute teacher at the current time so the position could be available to the right applicant as early as January 2026 or at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year. The position instructs Music Education as all levels (K-6) and Instrumental/Vocal offerings (7-12). The Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District is located in the Southwest corner of the state of Nebraska and includes the communities of Benkelman (population 770), Haigler (population 140) and Stratton (population 300). The district is comprised of approximately 280 students (average class size of 18.7 students) that are housed in three (03) buildings–a new (2025) Childcare/Pre-Kindergarten building, an Elementary (K-06) facility and Jr./Sr. High School all located in Benkelman, NE. Dundy County Stratton (DCS) competes at the Class D level for the Nebraska School Activity Association (NSAA) activities/athletics and is a member of the Republican Plains Activity Association (RPAC).
For the 2026-2027 school year, the district qualifies for the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) that provides free meals to all students. The communities and district have a strong “Farm-to-Fork” program that utilizes locally produced meat for the lunch program. Through local foundations, all graduating seniors are afforded scholarships of $4,000.00(+) per semester for up to four (04) years of post-secondary education. The district supports a 1:1 technology environment with students utilizing iPad’s or laptop’s. DCS has a strong staff, supportive communities and a progressive board/staff relationship along with advanced technology to provide great opportunities for students.

The Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District #117 has a 2025-2026 base salary of $41,600.00. Negotiations are currently underway for the 2026-2027 school year. The position will have a 185-day contract commencing in mid-August 2026 and concluding in mid-May 2027 (official ’26-27 calendar is yet to be adopted). The district offers paid Blue Cross Blue Shield family health insurance/single dental insurance ($1,050/$3,800 deductible) along with a paid $20,000 life insurance policy. Certificated staff members are provided with fifteen (15) days of paid time off (PTO) leave annually. All previous years of experience are accepted.
A successful candidate must possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate and have, or be able to attain, a Music Education endorsement as required by NDE. Applicants interested in or currently pursuing an alternative/transitional education permit are encouraged to apply. The district will support the right candidate through this process of attaining a certificate/permit. Coaching (Head Boys Basketball is available) and activity sponsorships are available but not required.
