Elementary Principal (PK-6th Grade)
Due to professional advancement, the Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District #117 in Benkelman, NE is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Elementary Principal (Pre-Kindergarten-through-6th Grade) for the 2026-2027 school year. The candidate must hold, or be able to obtain, Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Administrative Certification with the proper endorsement of Principal K-6 or PK-6. The Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District is located in the Southwest corner of the state of Nebraska and includes the communities of Benkelman (population 770), Haigler (population 140) and Stratton (population 300). The district is comprised of approximately 280 students that are housed in three (03) buildings–a new (2025) Childcare/Pre-Kindergarten building, Elementary (K-6) facility and a Jr./Sr. High School all located in Benkelman, NE. The Elementary Principal is responsible for the overall leadership of the Pre-Kindergarten and Elementary buildings located on the same campus. The current enrollment of the Pre-Kindergarten program is 30 students and the Elementary building is 122 students (16.8 students per classroom) along with a staff consisting of 30 staff members. DCS competes at the Class D level for Nebraska School Activity Association (NSAA) activities/athletics and is a member of the Republican Plains Activity Conference (RPAC).
For the 2026-2027 school year, the district qualifies for the NDE Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) that provides for free meals to all students in the district. The communities and district have a strong “Farm-to-Fork” program that utilizes locally produced meat for the lunch program. Through local foundations, all graduating seniors are afforded scholarships of $4,000.00(+) per semester for up to four (04) years of post-secondary education. The district supports a 1:1 technology environment with students utilizing iPad’s or laptop’s. DCS has a strong staff, supportive communities and a progressive board/staff relationship along with advanced technology to provide great opportunities for students.

The Dundy County Stratton (DCS) Public School District #117 provides a competitive salary/benefit package for administrators. Actual salary will be dependent upon education and experience. The position will have a 205-day contract commencing the first of August 2026 and concluding the first of June 2027. The district offers paid Blue Cross Blue Shield family health and dental insurance ($1,050/$3,800 deductible) along with a paid $20,000 life insurance policy. Administrators are provided with fifteen (15) days of paid time off (PTO) leave annually.
Coaching (Head Boys Basketball is available) and/or activity sponsorships are available but not required.
