Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

Doniphan-Trumbull Public School is currently accepting applications for the position of Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for the current 2023-2024 school year and beyond.

  • K-12 Special Education or willingness to obtain certificates will be considered.
  • D-T Public Schools accepts up to 11 years of successful teaching experiences and up to MA+27.

Position Purpose 
Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students’ specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.

Required Qualifications
  1. Knowledge and demonstration of “best practice” in teaching
  2. Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade level.
  3. Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  4. Knowledge of the Nebraska Teaching Standards
  5. Knowledge of special education and section 504
  6. Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Data driven decision making skills to ensure access to grade level standards for all students.
  9. Proven regular/consistent communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  10. Demonstrate the ability to modify/enhance curriculum & instruction to meet diverse needs of all students
  11. Demonstrated ability to facilitate a positive behavior change in students
  12. Demonstrated ability to provide direct and indirect social emotional instructional support to students in a positive environment
  13. Demonstrated ability to develop behavior intervention strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to improve student behavior
  14. Demonstrated use ongoing data sources to maintain a record of student progress
  15. Demonstrated ability to develop strategies to assist students in assessing their own behavior
  16. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff, administrators, students, teachers, parents, community agencies and partners
Education
  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher required.

 Certification/Licensure

  1. Must at all times during employment possess a Nebraska Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement and such other endorsements as may be required by NDE Rules 10 and 24 and all other certification and training as required or assigned.
    1. 1804: Early Childhood Inclusive 1804 (B-3)
  2. Ability / willingness to obtain licensure if not currently held will be considered
   Preferred Qualifications
  1. Three or more years of successful experience as a special education teacher working with behaviorally challenged students and/or students in an 18-21 program
  2. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and methodologies for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports
  3. Demonstrated, successful experience in providing positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting
  4. Demonstrated, successful and strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, teachers, administrators and support staff
  5. Demonstrated ability to facilitate highly specialized positive behavior interventions
  6. Demonstrated ability to teach socially acceptable behaviors, as determined from a variety of data sources
  7. Willingness to coach one or more extracurricular activities or extra duty assignments
  8. Demonstrated ability to organize and supervise paraprofessionals
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
  10. Ability to collaborate with the district’s mental health team to communicate strategies and techniques to support the positive behavior development of the student
  11. Ability to develop data-based SMART goals and aligned action plans.
  12. Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth
  13. Demonstrate the ability to reflect on own practice
  14. Demonstrated experience and/or strong understanding of MTSS

  • 23-24 Starting Salary – $38,900, as well as a retention bonus every 5 years of service.
  • ability to bring a maximum of 11 years of service to D-T

Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools is a rural school with proud academic traditions and great community support.  We are located in Central Nebraska right off of I-80, serving the communities of Doniphan and Trumbull.  Both towns are approximately 12 miles apart, and within 15 miles from the cities of Hastings and Grand Island.  Many of our nearly 450 students come from neighboring farms, or larger housing developments at Amick Acres, and a significant number have parents working in the neighboring tri-cities area.  Approximately 85% of our students graduate and go onto higher education and our school was a recipient of the ReVision Grant from NDE for the 2021-22 school year focusing on the expansion of CTE to include a CNA teaching lab on site.
