Head Cross Country Coach

The role of the Head Cross Country Coach is to be responsible for coaching, character development and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of athletic skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in cross country.

Crete Public Schools believes that the Head Cross Country Coach must assume a major role in fostering cooperation and positive teamwork, exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and most importantly, assume a major role in the development of our youth as future leaders. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and community. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.

Essential Requirements:

  1. Must possess or be eligible to possess a Valid Nebraska Teaching or Coaching Certificate.
  2. CPR and First Aid training (may be obtained on the job and must be kept current).
  3. Must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license with a certificate to operate a school van.
  4. Satisfactory completion of criminal background check.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish trust and rapport with teachers and administrators.
  7. Coaching experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  1. Follows and upholds the policies and mission of Crete Public Schools.
  2. Plans, organizes, and directs the Crete High School Cross Country program in a positive manner.
  3. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
  4. Implements a systematic process to develop individual student-athletes.
  5. Ensures that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
  6. Models good sportsmanship behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community.
  7. Creates a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  8. Maintains Strong Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
  9. Provides information regarding rules for the season (all sports schedule, clinic schedule, etc.).
  10. Holds informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season. Organizes a parent volunteer group to help with snacks, team meals, end of the year banquet, etc.
  11. Ensures that proper forms (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current and that all student-athletes are academically eligible.
  12. Leads and develops assistant coaching staff to ensure a high-quality experience for all athletes.
  13. Monitor and evaluate assistant coaching staff.
  14. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  15. Works directly with the school’s athletic trainer in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
  16. Partners with the community and families to create a relevant and thoughtful experience for all participants.
  17. Manages the 2021 Operating and Booster Budget accounts and adheres to the financial policies of Crete Public Schools in regards to purchase orders, collection and disbursement of money, expenses and receipts.
  18. Responsible for purchase order requests for program uniforms, supplies, and equipment.
  19. Arranges and schedules bus transportation with the Activities Director. Ability to drive a school van/vehicle to travel to away games and other softball events. Will travel with student-athletes on the team bus both to and from competitions.
  20. Submits athletic rosters to the Athletic Department one week before the first game, any changes to student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (list includes the number of awards and the class of the athlete).
  21. Submits team roster, statistics, scores and game summaries to MaxPreps, NSAA and media outlets.
  22. Completes and submits proper forms for in-season and postseason honors.
  23. Checks and secures all offices, storage rooms, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after the last player has left, after games and practices.
  24. Consults with the Director of Activities regarding any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-during-post informational parent meetings.
