Religion Teacher

Designs and delivers a balanced program of instruction around the Catholic and Protestant Religions and coordinate Boys Town’s Annual Christian Service Events.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Provides religious and social skills instruction for Boys Town students.

Develops and implements both group and individual lesson plans for the religious development of students.

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by laws, policies, and regulations.

Instructs students utilizing a variety of methods; adapts methodology and instructional materials to meet student needs, abilities.

Identifies possible religious needs of students and refers them to the chaplain as needed.

Establishes and implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social development, and physical health.

Participates in determining the religious background and needs of each student.

Supports school related extracurricular activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Understanding and belief in the Boys Town Mission and an ability to connect the religious and faith Components taught in the classroom to the skills being taught in the Family Home Program.

Ability to deliver instruction in an effective and efficient manner.

Knowledge of Protestant systems and religions, including basic principles, values, ethics, ways of thinking, customs, practices, and impact on human culture.

Ability to maintain a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.

Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.

Ability to demonstrate concern and respect for individual students and a commitment to and ability to work with youth who have special academic, spiritual, and emotional needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required.

Previous Religious Education background and familiar with experiential learning techniques and knowledgeable with issues facing at-risk youth required.

Prior parish, church, or religious education experience required.

Properly endorsed and certificated required.

Current Nebraska Teaching Certificate (or the ability to obtain one per Rule 21) preferably with an endorsement in Religious Education OR appropriate Secondary Endorsement required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Special Education endorsement preferred.
