Teacher – 9-12 Math or Special Education – Omaha

This position is being filled for the current school year.

PAY BASED ON THE STATE OF NE TEACHERS CONTRACT, EDUCATION, AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. Provide year round academic support and instruction to High School and Adult Education students at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) Community High School and other Omaha facilities as well as support teachers and students at other Nebraska Department of Correctional Services sites through distance collaboration. Examples of Work

Plan lessons for individual students and groups of students to facilitate the needs of the students and the requirements of the programs. Coordinate as distance education contact with one or more of the other facilities the academic needs of eligible students at that (those) site(s). Teach groups of students in core academic areas as well as provide instruction in non-core subjects as physical education, vocational/career preparedness, and/or music/performing arts. Work with students whose tested academic performance abilities range from 0 to 12.9+ grade levels. Documenting daily, weekly, monthly, and trimester progress as well as maintaining daily/weekly lesson plans for all classes. Assist in determining monthly inmate performance rating relevant to education. Prepare progress reports and grade reports as well as maintain online grade book for all students. Maintain supervision and discipline in the classroom. Supervise inmate teacher aides. Identify student learning materials for purchase. Monitor area for cleanliness and assist in the ordering of supplies. Develop and produce learning board, computer generated worksheets, tests, lessons, classroom management tools, and other items as needed. Work with the existing staff to develop a “team” approach to education. Assist with maintaining all Educational Data to include Planbook.com; online Student Information Management Systems (SIMS); NiCAMs; LACES data and more.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with minimum of provisional endorsement in Math or Special Education (9-12).

PREFERRED: Background working with at risk or high risk students and/or in a correctional setting. Added endorsement or ability to obtain same in vocational/career technical, library media, physical education, and/or music/performing arts desired.

OTHER: Must provide copy of certification and transcripts. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass pre-employment medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Computer skills to include Windows, Word, Excel, online student management system(s), planbook.com, and virtual learning (prefer experience with Acellus system).
